I wasted a lot of time this morning fixing a problem with my generation 4 iPod shuffle. Apple's error message is pretty unhelpful:
"The iPod PIG'S SHUFF cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified."
Here is my solution:
In Windows Vista (with iPod attached to computer) go to Start | Computer | Right-Click on iPod shuffle drive | Properties | Tools | Error Checking
Select both check boxes "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" and select the start button.
Problem solved.

ReplyDeletethere's only the icon for talking the pictures out of the ipod touch
Open iTunes then under your iPod settings tick or Enable disk use...then under your windows settings show hidden files, should be able to find them under iPod_Control

ReplyDeleteYou solved my problem with your solution.
Thanks.
Just a heads up. I tried this on Windows 10. While the error is now gone - the iPod was completely erased. The music is still on iTunes on my computer, but the playlists were made long enough ago that they didn't survive the multiple iTunes updates. Oh well!
